The IMT School for Advanced Studies Lucca welcomes submissions for a two-day workshop dedicated to examining how recent advances in Artificial Intelligence are shaping research, innovation, and organisational structures in science-intensive environments.
nt brings together scholars, postdoctoral researchers, and doctoral candidates working at the intersection of technology studies, management, economics, sociology of science, computer science, and related fields. We welcome theoretical, empirical, and methodological contributions.
The workshop addresses three thematic areas:
AI and R&D Dynamics
Contributions exploring how AI tools reshape discovery, experimentation, project organisation, search processes, or innovation trajectories within private firms and public organisations.
AI-Enabled Developments in Scientific Research
Studies investigating shifts in research workflows, data practices, methodological preferences, evaluation standards, or publication processes prompted by generative systems, machine learning, and related approaches.
AI and Organisational Change in Research Settings
Analyses concerning organisational structures within research infrastructures, laboratories, and broader ecosystems, including governance, coordination, expertise, and resource allocation.
Submission Guidelines
Participants should submit an extended abstract (1,000–1,500 words) or a full paper.
Accepted participants with an extended abstract will be encouraged to submit a full paper by March 30, 2026.
Extended abstracts should outline the research question, theoretical framing, methodological approach, and expected contribution. All submissions will be reviewed by the workshop’s scientific committee.
Format
The workshop will take place at IMT Lucca, Piazza San Francesco 19. It will feature paper sessions, discussant feedback, and roundtable discussions designed to encourage cross-disciplinary exchange. The program is available here.
